The Manaslu Trek is a classic tea house journey that encircles Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain. This remote adventure follows off-the-beaten trails and ascends to an impressive altitude of 5,106m (16,751ft) at Larkya La Pass, one of the longest passes in the Himalayas.
Our online briefing session is designed to address any questions you may have about the trek, including an equipment checklist, itinerary details, and what to expect on the trail. Once your booking is confirmed, we will send you the available dates and times for the session. After receiving your essential documents, we will conduct the online briefing.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek begins with a scenic bus ride from Kathmandu to Machha Khola, where you'll witness Nepal's unique landscapes, including roaring rivers, majestic mountains, terraced fields, and traditional villages.
Days 1-3: Trek to Khorla Besi and Philim Your trekking adventure starts the next morning, heading to Khorla Besi. The path winds through stunning waterfalls, rice terraces, and local villages. On day three, you’ll trek to Philim, navigating rugged trails with breathtaking views of Ganesh Himal and Shringi Himal. From Philim, the journey continues to Ghab, a charming village with Tibetan influences.
Days 4-5: Ghab to Lho and Samagaun The fourth day involves trekking through dense forests of fir, rhododendron, and bamboo en route to Lho, where you may spot the Danphe (Nepal’s national bird), Langur monkeys, and other wildlife. From Lho, you’ll move towards Samagaun, taking in views of Ngadi Chuli, Peak, and Hiunchuli, and passing through Shyala village. A day in Samagaun is reserved for acclimatization, during which you can enjoy side treks to Manaslu Base Camp, Birendra Lake, or Pungyen Monastery.
Days 6-7: Samagaun to Dharamshala After your day in Samagaun, the trek continues to Samdo, a village of Tibetan refugees, offering more stunning views of Manaslu. The next stop is Dharamshala, with a memorable route that passes by Larkya La Glacier.

A long suspension bridge over the Marsayangdi River signals your arrival in Dharapani. On the final day, a bus from Dharapani takes you to Besisahar, ensuring arrival before 3 pm to catch the last bus to Kathmandu. Missing this bus may require an extra day for your return.
The 12 Days Manaslu Circuit Trek offers various opportunities for side treks and flexible itinerary adjustments to suit your interests. For detailed day-by-day coverage, refer to the complete 12 Days Manaslu Trek Itinerary.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you through the remote and less-traveled trails of the Nepali Himalayas as it circles Mount Manaslu. Despite being quieter than other treks, it offers a full spectrum of Nepal’s natural beauty—diverse climates leading to unique flora and fauna, roaring rivers crossed by suspension bridges, rugged mountain landscapes, and the warm hospitality of people adapting to their environment.
The trek provides breathtaking views of majestic peaks, including Lamjung Himal (6,983m), Annapurna (8,091m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Himalchuli (7,893m), and the Ganesh Himal range. With the region located near the Tibetan border, trekkers can immerse themselves in both Hindu and Buddhist cultural experiences. The Manaslu Circuit is as thrilling and adventurous as the Annapurna Circuit or the Everest Base Camp trek, with a difficulty level that is considered challenging.

Yes, the Manaslu Circuit is considered a challenging trek. However, those who are reasonably fit, properly prepared, and committed can complete it successfully

Altitude sickness is common on high-altitude treks. While it cannot be fully avoided, you can reduce the risk by trekking at your own pace, acclimatizing properly, and staying well-hydrated. Our guides will also provide additional tips to help you manage altitude sickness during the trek.
Although the Manaslu region is remote, you’ll find lodges and tea houses at key points along the trek. While the accommodations may not be luxurious, they are comfortable, and you will primarily stay in twin-sharing rooms.
We advise against drinking water from local sources such as wells, taps, or rivers along the trekking route. Bottled water is available for purchase at shops and tea houses, but for environmental reasons, we recommend bringing a reusable water bottle and purchasing boiled water from lodges and tea houses.
Most common medications are available in Kathmandu. However, if you have specific allergies or medical requirements, we recommend bringing your own medications from home.

In this remote region, the primary mode of transportation is trekking on foot.
For the trek, it is suggested to pack essential items only. The list below provides a guideline, though personal preferences and weather may influence what you bring.
Note: We can provide (used, non-waterproof) duffle bags, (used) down jackets, and (used) sleeping bags if needed.
We provide complimentary pickup and drop-off at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. Upon arrival, a company representative will meet you at the airport holding a sign with your name and transport you to your hotel in a private vehicle.
Before arriving in Nepal, we conduct an online trek briefing to share essential details about your upcoming journey. Additionally, an in-person briefing will be held in Kathmandu prior to departure. During this session, we will also check your luggage to ensure you have all the necessary clothing and equipment.
Plan to arrive in Kathmandu at least two business days before your trek departure date. This time is needed to process your special Manaslu Trek permit, which requires your original passport and visa. If you missed the online briefing, we can also conduct an in-person one during this time. On the departure day, we will travel by road to Sotikhola via Arughat, the starting point of the trek.
The package covers local transportation from Kathmandu to Sotikhola and from Dharapani to Besisahar, followed by the return to Kathmandu. For enhanced comfort on the often challenging roads, you have the option to rent a private jeep for an additional fee.
This 11-night trek package includes stays at some of the finest lodges along the trail. You’ll enjoy five nights in rooms with private attached bathrooms at Sotikhola, Lho, Samagaun (2 nights), and Bhimtang. The remaining six nights are in standard rooms at Khola Bensi, Philim, Ghap, Samdo, Dharamsala, and Dharapani.

Meals at the lodges are fresh, hygienic, and provide a mix of local, Asian, and Western dishes. We recommend including plenty of vegetables and liquids such as green tea, ginger tea, and garlic soup. Non-vegetarian items may be available but are not recommended due to hygiene concerns. Avoiding dairy, alcohol, caffeine, and hot chocolate at high altitudes is also advisable.
Note: Personal bills for drinks other than the standard package items (tea, coffee, cold drinks) are not included.
Each trekker is permitted up to 9 kg of luggage. Porters will carry a combined load of 18 kg for every two trekkers. It is recommended to carry a small backpack with your valuables and essential documents.

Electricity is available at most lodges along the trek for recharging camera and phone batteries, though it comes at an additional cost. Drinking water can be purchased as bottled mineral water or boiled water, also for a fee. If needed, we can provide water purification tablets. To ensure safety, avoid drinking water directly from rivers, taps, or wells.
Internet services are available at most lodges during the Manaslu Trek, typically for an additional charge, allowing you to stay connected with loved ones. At higher altitudes, communication will mainly rely on mobile networks.
Mountain Magic Treks maintains communication with all trekkers through the trek leader, who provides daily updates. You can purchase a local SIM card in Kathmandu, but please note that signal strength diminishes as you ascend. Wi-Fi is available in lodges at an extra cost.
Tipping is an integral part of Nepali culture and a way to show appreciation for excellent service. It is customary but optional, depending on your satisfaction. We recommend collecting tips as a group and presenting them to the team at the end of the trek.
On the twelfth day, you will take a bus from Dharapani to Besishar and transfer to another bus for your journey back to Kathmandu, arriving in the evening. For added comfort, you can opt to hire a private jeep to Kathmandu at an additional cost. The day concludes with a special farewell dinner hosted by us.
After your ManasluCircuit Trek, Mountain Magic Treks will host a farewell dinner in Kathmandu. During this special gathering, you will be presented with a trek achievement certificate as a token of your accomplishment. The dinner also offers a chance to share your feedback and reflections on the journey.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek 12 days offers fixed departure dates from Kathmandu but can be customized to suit your preferences and schedule. If the listed dates do not align with your plans, simply let us know, and we will arrange a trek tailored to your needs.
The provided itinerary serves as a general framework and may require adjustments due to unforeseen factors such as weather conditions, lodging availability, government policies, trail conditions, or environmental concerns. While changes are uncommon, we cannot be held accountable for modifications caused by circumstances beyond our control. In such cases, the lead guide will make decisions in the best interests of the group.
Should you wish to extend your stay in Nepal after the Manaslu trek, we can assist in organizing additional activities. Options include exploring the Kathmandu Valley, embarking on a Chitwan jungle safari, paragliding, rafting, or canoeing.
For your departure, we will arrange a private vehicle to transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport. We hope to welcome you back to Nepal for more adventures in the future!
To ensure safety and favorable conditions, Manaslu Circuit Trek operates the Manaslu Trek from February to June and August to December. Here’s a quick guide to the weather during spring and autumn, the two most popular trekking seasons:
Spring is the prime season for the Manaslu trek, offering stunning views of Mt. Manaslu and its surrounding glaciers. From mid-March, temperatures start to rise, and clear skies provide breathtaking vistas of snowy peaks. The trails are vibrant with blooming rhododendrons in various colors. By late March, the winter snow melts, making the route to Larkya La Pass accessible.
Autumn is another excellent time for the trek, with stable weather and clear skies following the monsoon’s retreat by late August. Mid-September onward provides unparalleled mountain views. This season also coincides with major Nepali festivals like Dashain and Tihar.
Keep in mind that mountain weather can be unpredictable and may change rapidly.
All foreign nationals (except Indian citizens) must obtain a visa to enter Nepal. You can get a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. Requirements include:
Visa regulations can change, so check the latest details at www.immigration.gov.np.
Citizens of China and SAARC countries are eligible for free visas. However, nationals of certain countries (e.g., Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Iraq, and Afghanistan) may not qualify for visas on arrival and should contact their nearest Nepalese embassy.
Given the challenges of the Manaslu trek, including risks such as high-altitude sickness and potential landslides, travel insurance is mandatory.
Trekkers must provide Mountain Magic Treks with a copy of their comprehensive travel insurance policy before starting the trek. The policy must cover:
While we can recommend insurance providers, we do not sell insurance policies. Ensure you confirm directly with the insurance company that your policy includes helicopter rescue and evacuation up to 6,000 meters, as website information may not always be reliable.
In emergencies, we will use your insurance details to coordinate a swift rescue operation.
The official currency of Nepal is the Nepali Rupee (NPR/Rs), with an approximate exchange rate of 1 USD = ~130 NPR.
Foreign currencies can be exchanged at local banks and authorized money exchange counters, particularly in Kathmandu and Thamel. These exchange points prominently display current rates. Please note that only Indian Rupee notes in denominations of ₹100 and ₹2000 are accepted in Nepal.
Although traveler’s cheques are secure, we recommend using cash for convenience, as cheques often involve lengthy procedures and high bank fees.
Cash withdrawals in Nepali Rupees are available at numerous ATMs across Kathmandu and Thamel, many of which operate 24/7. The maximum withdrawal limit is 35,000 NPR per transaction, with a processing fee of 500 NPR when using a foreign card. If you choose to exchange money at banks or financial institutions, be prepared for service fees of around 4% or higher, depending on the provider.
Most reputable banks in Asia, including Nepal, do not accept old, damaged, or faded foreign currency notes, so ensure that your bills are clean and in good condition.
Meals and accommodations in Kathmandu are the responsibility of the clients, with a wide range of hotels and lodges available to suit different budgets. You should bring personal spending money to cover expenses such as meals, accommodations, visa processing, travel insurance, beverages, snacks, hot drinks (tea or coffee), tips for the trekking crew, souvenirs, and more.
We recommend carrying cash in major currencies, as it can easily be exchanged for Nepali Rupees in Kathmandu. Please note that only Nepali Rupees are accepted in the trekking regions.
The 12-day Manaslu trek offers a shorter alternative to the 16-day version, with a daily hike of 6 to 7 hours in the lower trekking regions, from Soti Khola to Lho. The upper trek regions, from Samagaun to Bhimtang, follow the same itinerary as the longer trek.
This trek is intended for individuals with previous high-altitude trekking experience and a solid level of physical fitness, capable of hiking for 6 to 7 hours per day. The difficulty level of the Manaslu trek is above average, involving long ascents, steep descents, and rugged trails that wind through rocky paths and forests.
We advise against this trek for individuals with medical conditions such as heart or lung disease.
The Manaslu Trek takes you through remote regions with limited modern amenities. Given the rugged trails and high elevations, safety is our top priority. Discovery World Trekking takes several measures to ensure your safety, including:
Altitude Sickness (AMS), or acute mountain sickness, can affect anyone who ascends too quickly. To help prevent AMS, we recommend the following strategies:
Our expert guides will provide additional tips to help minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
Altitude sickness is common in high mountain regions but is preventable and treatable if addressed promptly.
From Samagaun (3,530m/11,581 ft), we will spend four to five nights at altitudes above 3,500m, where altitude sickness is most likely to occur. The Manaslu Trek itinerary is designed to help prevent mountain sickness, with a gradual ascent starting at Sotikhola (730m) and taking seven days to reach Samagaun. This pace allows your body to adjust to the altitude gradually.
We will ascend slowly, with a rest day in Samagaun. We encourage you to drink plenty of water throughout the trek to aid in acclimatization. With these precautions, we are confident you can cross Larkya La Pass without issues.
Your health and safety are our utmost priority, and we will not compromise on them. If any trek member experiences health issues, the trek leader has the authority to make decisions about whether to continue or descend, based on the well-being of the group.
During the Manaslu Circuit Trek, you will be accompanied by our skilled, government-licensed guides and Sherpas, ensuring a safe and unforgettable adventure. Porters will carry your luggage, with two trekkers assigned to each porter. If you prefer, we can assign one porter per person for additional comfort.
Our crew members are locals from the high Himalayas, known for their exceptional physical endurance at high altitudes. We take great care in valuing our staff, ensuring they receive fair wages along with insurance, clothing, food, and lodging. All our guides and porters also have access to medical care in case of illness or injury.
We believe in the well-being and happiness of our staff, as we know that happy individuals create positive experiences for our guests. Our crew members are equipped with the following qualifications:

We do not combine your group with other trekkers. For groups of 12 or more, we will assign an additional assistant guide for added support.
At Mountain Magic Treks, we are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of tourism in trekking areas. We work closely with the Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) to ensure our trips are eco-friendly and that the needs of both trekkers and local communities are met responsibly.
The Manaslu Trek includes fixed departure dates from Kathmandu but can be customized to suit your specific schedule and preferences. If the listed departure dates don't work for you, let us know, and we will arrange an itinerary that fits your needs.
The itinerary provided is a general guideline and may need to be adjusted due to unforeseen factors such as unstable weather, unavailability of lodgings, government regulations, or changes in trail conditions.
While itinerary changes are rare, we cannot be held responsible for modifications resulting from circumstances beyond our control. In such cases, the lead guide will make decisions in the best interest of the entire trekking group.

Exceptional trip! Rewati, Keshap, and the rest of the boys from Mountain Majic were amazing and went above and beyond to ensure we had a good time. When we decided to change our travel plans after the trip (Pokhara instead of Kathmandu) Rewati organized everything straight away, it required no thought on our behalf. Even once we were back in Kathmandu he kept in touch and organised taxis and sightseeing trips for us. If we come back to Nepal for another trek we will use Mountain Majic again for sure!
Enjoy the popular trekking and tour packages in Nepal Himalayas. 2024.
