The Manaslu circuit trek is one of the best treks in Nepal. It takes you around the Manaslu Conservation Area and leads to a breathtaking view of the eighth-highest mountain in the world.
This trek can be a great alternative if you’ve already been to the Annapurna Circuit. Manaslu Circuit Trek is a 14-day trek that starts at Soti Khola, ends at Beshi Sahar, and can be extended to 19 days with an additional side trek to the Tsum valley.
Flanked by the Annapurna’s to the West and Ganesh Himal to the East, Manaslu is one of the most graceful of the 8000-meter giants.
Unlike the Everest Base Camp Trek, which is flooded with trekkers from around the world. the Manaslu circuit trek usually sees fewer people along its route. It is remote and physically demanding yet culturally enriching and scenically uplifting.
The circuit takes you from the steamy lowlands with their rice and millet terraces through the mighty gorges of the Budi Gandaki with its turquoise waters and amazing waterfalls. Suspension bridges in the Manaslu trek are in a league of their own for both length and height, and the yearly monsoon often washes minor bridges away, leaving trekkers to use semi-submerged rocks.
Only opened to a maximum of 400 trekkers in 1992, this trek still feels like a pioneering expedition. If you want to know what trekking in the 1980s was like, the Manaslu circuit trek is a visual feast from start to finish, but you better be fit.
Slowly, you wind your way North to the snowbound Larkya La Pass next to the Tibetan border. The altitude here is a problem but almost forgotten with the jaw-dropping views of Manaslu. At 5,167 meters/16,952 feet, Larkya La Pass is usually snow-covered and icy. Micro crampons are often used on the descent. Trekking to the pass requires a 4 a.m. start to make the highest point before the winds come, usually around mid-morning.
From the pass looking back the way you have come gives a clear view, but by far, the most amazing view comes after you have left the pass and walked along a corridor to the west.
A great glacial cirque bursts into view. A stupendous wall created by Cheo Himal, Himlung Himal, Nemjung, Gyaji Kang, and Kang Guru casts down a stream of glaciers while Annapurna II rises ahead. This view alone makes the trek worthwhile. Mountain Magic Treks can arrange your all-inclusive 14 days trek. The trek can be done on a teahouse unless you want to go off-route, where camping is the only option.
At the beginning of your trek, you’ll embark on a 160 km / 99-mile journey from Kathmandu to Soti Khola, passing through Arughat. This trip takes about 7 hours by private jeep and approximately 8 to 9 hours if you opt for a local bus. The first day offers an adventurous off-road experience.
Upon completing your trek, you’ll take a 6-hour jeep ride from Dharapani, followed by a switch to another jeep or local bus for a 7-hour return drive to Kathmandu.
At Mountain Magic Treks we ensure a seamless start to your journey. Your guide will meet you at your hotel and accompany you to the bus station via taxi, a 15-minute drive away. The bus typically departs between 7 and 8 am, but we will confirm the exact timing with you during our meeting the day before your trek.
If you’ve chosen private transportation, it will arrive directly at your hotel. Along with your guide, you’ll begin your journey from there. We recommend departing at 8:00 am to avoid Kathmandu’s traffic. You’ll have the flexibility to stop for lunch at your convenience during the trip.
For the Manaslu Trek, you need a special permit because it’s in a restricted area. A local company has to issue this permit. You also need two other permits: ACAP and MCAP. Remember, you must trek with at least one other person.
When you book with us, we’ll ask for your passport details. We use these to get your permit. You don’t need to worry about anything. we’ll take care of it all. Your guide will have the permit to show up at checkposts during the trek. You’ll get the permit back at the end of your trek.

In the dining areas of nearly all teahouses, you'll discover a consistent selection of dishes on the menu. This assortment typically includes Dal Bhat, momos, pasta, pizza, and various rice and noodle creations. Keep in mind that certain dishes require more preparation time, such as momos. To ensure you're choosing from the freshest options available, it's advisable to inquire beforehand. Opting for freshly prepared meals is a prudent measure to maintain your health during the trek. Among the choices, Dal Bhat stands out as a popular preference for most trekkers, guides, and porters. This choice is known for its reliability, nutritional value, and widespread availability along the journey.
As you ascend in altitude during your trek, it's important to note that meal prices tend to increase. For instance, in locations like Gorak Shep, situated at higher elevations near Everest Base Camp, you can anticipate higher costs for Dal Bhat compared to the rates in Lukla, which benefits from easy accessibility due to its airport and lower elevation.
The majority of teahouses across Nepal now offer Wi-Fi access and charging outlets within their dining spaces. However, the reliability and speed of these connections can be inconsistent at best, especially as more individuals connect to the network (often due to the limitations of older routers). Teahouses in the Everest region, particularly in places like Namche Bazaar, tend to have better internet connectivity. Nonetheless, it's important not to set overly high expectations for connectivity outside of this area in Nepal.
At most teahouses, you can make a nominal payment of around $3 (Rs. 300) to charge your electronic devices. Frequent power outages are a common occurrence, so it's advisable to take advantage of charging opportunities whenever they arise.
Teahouse structures exhibit slight variations based on the region, but they generally consist of stone and wooden structures or huts. These establishments typically incorporate a kitchen, a communal dining area, bathroom facilities, and basic bedrooms equipped with two single beds and a table. While most teahouses are specifically designed to cater to trekkers, some in more remote Nepalese regions may also serve as family residences.
Mountain Magic Treks provides a steady supply of chlorine and iodine-treated water during the trek. Mineral water and boiled water are available at tea houses for an additional cost. While we discourage the purchase of bottled water and plastic containers due to environmental concerns, these options are available for your convenience.
As part of our commitment to your experience, Mountain Magic Treks offers complimentary route maps, T-shirts, and duffel bags.
Given the active nature of this journey, efficient packing is essential. Each two trekkers will be accompanied by a porter who will carry your trekking gear in a provided duffel bag. Porters are permitted to carry a maximum of 15 kg per trekker, totaling 30 kg for two trekkers. Any unnecessary luggage can be stored free of charge at your Kathmandu hotel.
Please refer to the Gear List section of these trip notes for comprehensive details on essential items for the trek. Be sure to carry a comfortable medium-sized daypack with a waist strap or padded waist belt. Given the variable mountain weather, layering your clothing is advisable throughout the year.
While September to November and March to May are recommended as the best seasons for the Manaslu Circuit trek, trekking is feasible until December. During these months, you'll enjoy sun-kissed days and awe-inspiring vistas. For those seeking solitude and a more intimate communion with nature, winter (December to February) presents a less crowded yet enjoyable trekking experience.
Daytime warmth contrasts with cooler mornings and nights, with temperatures ranging from -2 to -7 degrees Celsius in the Manaslu Circuit. It's worth noting that weather conditions in the Himalayas are influenced by the Indian Ocean. While trekking in summer or the monsoon season (June to August) may be accompanied by rain, it offers a unique opportunity for avid botanists.
A single night of camping may be necessary during this period, as the Dharmasala hotel is typically closed from mid-December to January.
For all individuals planning the Manaslu Circuit trek, obtaining comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended. Your insurance coverage should encompass any potential expenses arising from health issues, injuries, or accidents, including air ambulance and helicopter rescue costs. Additionally, your policy should encompass potential eventualities like lost luggage, theft, cancellations, medical treatment (including hospitalization and medication costs), and repatriation expenses.
Given the altitude of this trek (reaching 5,000m), ensure your insurance extends coverage to altitudes exceeding 5,000m. It is essential for each client to assume responsibility for unforeseen expenses during the trip.

My partner and I chose Mountain Magic Treks for our Manaslu Circuit Trek after looking at many different companies, reviews, and itineraries - and WOW we couldn’t be happier with our experience! Rewati from the office were incredibly helpful in making sure we were prepared and always quick to respond to any questions before the trek. But the real kudos goes to our top-notch trekking all-star duo team: Suman our guide, and Kesab our porter.
Suman and Kesab were as wonderful as the mighty mountains and gave us the experience of a lifetime by sharing their local area with us (yes, they are locals to Manaslu area which was a huge bonus!!). Every night they gave us fresh fruit (while other trekkers looked longingly at it), gave us advice about which foods were best to eat in each tea house to stay healthy, and selected the most comfortable tea houses along the way (Suman often went ahead to make sure we had the best rooms waiting for us on our arrival). Kesab even surprised us with a taste of the local “raksi” a few times, which was really appreciated after a long day of trekking! We felt so fortunate to have these two looking out for us and the trip wouldn’t have been as wonderful without them.
All that said - Manaslu Circuit Trek must be the best trekking experience for anyone who wants breathtaking scenery, to get away from big crowds, and to have a challenging yet rewarding two weeks of hiking in the Himalayas. Seriously wow!
I cannot recommend this team enough - book your Nepal trek with them and you will be treated to the most wonderful experience of a lifetime! 100% 5 stars 10/10 would recommend and book again next time we come to Nepal. THANK YOU MOUNTAIN MAGIC TREKS!

Rewati gave us an awesome Trek on the Manaslu Circuit Trek and got us out of some really tough situations including a lost passport & emergency evacuation. Many trekkers will try to do The Circuit without a Porter - which is doable - but without Rewati and porter, we would have been completely SOL! His knowledge, experience, and good nature turned what could have otherwise been a disastrous trip into an enjoyable one!

Wonderful! My husband and I just returned home from a 3 week trip in Nepal. Rewati (owner of Mountain Magic Treks) facilitated the entire trip and helped create an amazing experience. He was thorough, organized, and communicative during the planning stages of the trip which helped me to feel prepared. He managed all of the details so that we were able to enjoy the trek without worrying about transportation, permits, etc. He thinks of everything --- we were the only group on our trek to have fresh fruit every day and many of the other trekkers were asking which organization we trekked with as they found theirs lacking in comparison. We felt so welcomed and taken care of. If you are looking for a guide or trekking agency, I would 100% recommend Mountain Magic Treks!

We hiked the Manaslu Circuit Trek in April 2023. It's one of the lesser traveled popular treks in Nepal, but with great hiking and incredible views it did not disappoint. The trek was only made better by our guide and our porter (Rewati and Ramess) at Mountain Magic Treks. They had us covered from start to finish, including picking us up and dropping us off at the airport. While on the trail they were incredible guides, making sure we had everything we needed. Even though he was carrying our bags, Ramess was somehow out ahead of us every day, arriving to the next village and making sure we got the best sleeping situation possible. He even helped out in the kitchen at a couple of the smaller villages. Rewati was always super friendly and gladly indulged our curiosity, sharing about his life and his country's culture. It's hard to imagine having better guides than we got from Mountain Magic Treks. We would definitely travel with them again!

Manaslu Circuit - Escape the crowds below Annapurna and enjoy the true spirit of the Himalayas
We had an amazing time on the Manaslu trek in November. During the hike, one climbs slowly from the lowlands to the Larke Pass at 5100 meters, and the countryside changes slowly the whole time! It's fantastic to see the diversity - to begin with, it's hot, surrounded by green and fertile valleys. A few days later, you'll find yourself in beautiful Tibetan villages at the foot of the snow-capped Himalayan giants.
We chose Mountain Magic Treks the local trekking company to guide us on this fantastic trek, and it totally won the lottery! Compared to other companies, our guide was young, energetic and best of all spoke English very well. That's not normal. Thanks to him, we got to know a lot about Nepal. He recommended secret places to visit, was flexible with planning, gave great tips for taking pictures, and always knew what to do.
The company generally provided good accommodation and ensured that we always had a good meal with an evening dessert prepared by ourselves. Once one of the chiefs got lost in the hotel by mistake, the guide played his role and prepared a delicious meal.
Finally, Mountain Magic Treks doesn't just take care of you on the circuit - but also helps you find accommodation in Kathmandu and provides some entertainment. Normally I am not a fan of organized trips, but I must admit, thanks to Mountain Magic Treks, the trip turned into a Mountain Magic adventure that we enjoyed a lot!

Nice upgraded hike with our amazing guide
We completed the Manaslu circuit trek at the end of May 2023 in 14 days and it was difficult but amazing! We booked our trek a day before flying to Nepal and communication with Rewati was good. They offered me information and information about the itinerary and adapted it for us, since we only had 16 days in Nepal.
When we arrived at Kathmandu airport, my guide, Khem, was waiting for us and picked us up to go to the office where we discussed the trek and checked our gear. The next day we left early in the morning with my guide, Khem, who picked us up from our hotel and we went to the bus station and drove a whole day to Soti Khota because that's where our trek started the next day.
The next 12 days included lots of hiking, beautiful views on the Manaslu circuit and learning about local Tibetan culture. We asked our guide, Khem, many questions about the trek, the environment, the Tibetan culture, and many other things. Khem would always have an answer. As I am a photographer, my guide Khem recommended us to stay at a nice lodge in Shyla to catch the sunrise and take some nice photos. As we were trekking in the spring, my guide also suggested adjusting our itinerary as we were trekking alone, and some lodges would be closed due to low trekking season. The day on the pass was tough, but we made it; it was cold and windy at Larke La pass, but the sky was beautifully blue and we took some great photos. On the long way, our guide preceded us to organize the food.
When we finally arrived after 4.5 hours, we rested, ate some great soup and food, and met some hikers later that night. What we loved about the trek was that our guide was so considerate of us; he could always see when we were happy or struggling and helped us with our food. Besides learning a lot about the local Nepali and Tibetan culture, we learned a lot about Nepal and had a lot of fun meeting other trekkers, the Nepalese guides and the staff.
We had a lot of laughs with our guide and other Nepali staff and guides and were even invited to the kitchen for some local wine. In Namrung our guide also arranged for us to attend an annual local Tibetan ceremony where we had local wine, Tibetan tea and food, it was truly amazing. At altitude it was quite cold at night and in the morning, but that is the downside of trekking in May in the spring.
The night before the pass there was also light snow, but in the end it wasn't too bad and didn't stop us from crossing the pass. On the higher camps the amenities in the spring are more basic which combined with the cold weather made it a difficult hike at times. However, this takes into account that spring in the Himalayas is very harsh, but the views were amazing every day. We wouldn't have wanted it any other way because the experience we had on the Manaslu trek was raw, authentic and amazing, and our Khem guide from Mountain Magic Treks made it the best.

Just finished the Manaslu Circuit Trek with Mountain Magic Treks, with Khem as my guide and Rewati as my original contact and planner. The trek was incredible, and Khem was a great guide for it — seeing to everything from the bus/jeep rides, dinner the night before the departure, good guesthouses to stay in, and card games at night. It made the experience about the trek and not about any hassle (e.g., permits, bus rides, etc.). Rewati made the planning easy and went out of his way to provide airport transportation and dinner the night after. Would do it again!

After a long plan, we had an unforgettable time on the Manaslu Circuit Trek for 14 days in October 2023. The weather was fabulous, and I saw spectacular views along the way. We found the Manaslu trek to be completely unique, authentic, culturally rich, and a more natural trail to hike around the charming valley. Despite the beauty, the Larkya La Pass offers an amazing and superb view from the top. Our guide was a Khem; he is very experienced, knowledgeable, and helpful. He explained very well about the flora and fauna. Our Manaslu trek was booked with Mountain Magic Treks, and genuinely, they were very professional and helped to explain everything before booking the trip. The trek package included everything, and it was also an affordable package with a customized program too. They took us very safely, and I would highly recommend the Mountain Magic Treks Team to those who are planning to hike around the Manaslu area. Thank you so much, team, for a beautiful adventure trip.

I trekked with our amazing guide mr Khem and 2 porters mr Khila and Khumar through the Manaslu circuit trek. The trek will always be amazingly beautiful, but what made it really special is the friendship we build with the entire team!
We played cards every night, joked around all the time and learned a lot about the region because mr Khem knows so much and explains it in good English.
Book with this company if you want to have an amazing time as well as a beautiful trek!
