Tamang Heritage Trail The Langtang region is one of the vast Tamang tribal cultural heritages in Nepal, a Buddhist and Bonpo region. The Tamang Heritage Trek in Rasuwa District was started by the Government of Nepal as part of tourism for rural poverty alleviation. Rasuwa is located north of Kathmandu which is about 124 km from the capital. Starting point of Langtang Valley trek via Tamang Heritage Walk is the daily bus and Tata Sumo Jeep service from the small town of Syabrubesi in Kathmandu.
The Tamang Heritage Trail is a full 10-day itinerary including the Langtang Valley passing through the backward but culturally rich villages of Goljung, Gatlang, Chilime, Tatopani, Brimding, Nagathali, Thuman, Timure, Buddhism and Syabrubesi (TRPAP, p 2007). 37) and Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok and inhabited by the Tamangs, an ethnic group of Nepal with dense settlements in the northern part of Kathmandu.
The Tamang are considered to be among the tribal tribes of the hilly regions living at an altitude of 5,000 to 7,000 feet above sea level. Tribal societies are what ethnobiologist Gary Paul Navan defines as settled cultures. They are human communities that have a long history of interaction with a particular type of terrain and its wildlife. Because the natural resources used by indigenous peoples today are often the same as those used by generations of ancestors, indigenous communities tend to exploit these resources with high levels of cultural significance.
The Tamang Heritage Walking Itinerary is combined with the Langtang Walk from Lama Hotel, and is the northern part of Kathmandu. Langtang is also home to primitive Buddhist monasteries, rhododendron forests, bamboo forests, deserts, waterfalls, snow-capped Himalayas and many sacred lakes.
Wildlife bears, leopards, red pandas and musk deer are also seen on the Tamang Heritage Walk. Discover the rough history of Tibetan ancestors as you travel through the region. People are engaged in agriculture and trade. They prefer colorful dress, and their houses are decorated with impressive wood carvings.
Gatlang village has 400 houses and 3,200 population, but the householders are old people and small children, the village has nice and attractive hotels, also homestays for trekkers, most of the villagers are involved in agricultural activities including animal husbandry and trade. However, the Tamang caste in this area do not benefit much from farming because the mountain roofs are high and the land is not irrigated.
